Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, undergoing surgery for gastrointestinal bleeding, temporarily ceding power to his younger brother Raul. Castro has been one of the few despots in whom I have so far been unable to confirm addiction. However, in the autobiographical expose, Castro's Daughter: An Exile's Memoir of Cuba, Alina Fernandez mentions the prevalence of cocaine in Cuba. For the first 212 pages, there are no clues to drugs in Castro's life (he, like amphetamine/barbiturate addict Adolf Hitler before him, is a relative teetotaler).
